Meet The Team

Dr. Warren Douglas Kent Jr. was born and raised in the Amite area. After graduating from Amite High School, Dr. Kent studied pre-vet medicine at Louisiana State University before leaving to attend Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Kent graduated from veterinary school in 1961 with his doctoral degree and then served in the United States Air Force. After completing his tour of duty, Dr. Kent returned to Amite to establish Kent Veterinary Clinic in 1965.

Dr. Drew Doucet grew up in Opelousas, Louisiana and graduated from Amy Bradford Ware Academy. After studying pre-veterinary medicine at LSU Eunice, Dr. Doucet moved to Baton Rouge to attend LSU School of Veterinary Medicine . Following graduation in 1980, Dr. Doucet came to Amite to practice medicine with Dr. Kent.

Dr. Nicole Cutrer Spring is an Associate Veterinarian who joined our team in June 2025. A proud graduate of Louisiana State University, she earned her Bachelor of Science in 2018 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2021.

Inspired by a childhood gift of a cow from her grandfather, Nicole developed a passion for animal care that led her to volunteer at a local veterinary clinic at the age of 16. As a General Practitioner, she is dedicated to treating every pet as if they were her own, providing thorough, individualized care while fostering open communication with pet owners.

Nicole is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA), and Florida Panhandle Veterinary Medical Association (FPVMA).

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Jacob, and their daughter, Alora, as well as caring for their three dogs—Tilly, Cali, and Roland—and two cats, Maxine and Midnight. Nicole is excited to serve the community of Amite, where her love for veterinary medicine began.

Dr. Chelsea Veldhuizen is a 2024 graduate from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She has a special interest in geriatric medicine and takes a multimodal approach to pain management, with a focus on improving comfort, mobility, and quality of life for her patients.

Her passion for veterinary medicine is deeply personal and was inspired by her heart-and-soul dog, Annie Jo. After navigating multiple veterinary specialties to manage Annie Jo’s numerous chronic conditions, Chelsea  developed a profound appreciation for the impact compassionate, collaborative veterinary care can have on both pets and their families. That experience continues to shape her approach to medicine and her commitment to helping clients navigate their pets’ health journeys with understanding and empathy.

Outside the clinic, Chelsea enjoys life with her husband, two stepchildren, and a busy household of five dogs, chickens, hermit crabs, and goldfish. When she isn’t caring for patients, she spends her time working on her small business, AJ Acres, making memories with her family, camping, and traveling up north to enjoy time at the family camp.

Chelsea is passionate about building lasting relationships with her clients and providing thoughtful, individualized care that helps pets live happier, healthier, and more comfortable lives.

Sue worked for Dr. John Melancon at Airline Park Animal Clinic in Metairie, La from 1978 to May 1982. Sue and her husband moved to Hammond, La in 1982 and she started working at Kent Veterinary Clinic. She and her husband Frank have two children, Frank, and Melissa as well as Hallie her Maltese. Sue is from New Sarpy, La and she graduated from Destrehan High School. She is a Practice Manager for Kent Veterinary Clinic going on 41 years now.

Taylor Golden has always had a passion for animals and grew up bringing her pets to the clinic. She has been a faithful employee here for seven years and moved her way up to practice manager after years of dedication to her patients/clinic. Taylor enjoys spending time hunting, fishing, riding dirtbikes, and playing music as well as caring for her four dogs, Ada, Billie, Hazel Grace, and Hoke. She also has three cats, DJ, Popper, and Scarlett Rose.  We hope everyone that comes in our clinic gets the opportunity to meet and see what a great care giver/employee she is.

Sarah Delyea earned her bachelor’s degree in animal science from LSU and has always had a passion for animals. Although she is newer to veterinary medicine, she has quickly grown to love the rewarding and fast-paced world of veterinary care. Outside of the clinic, Sarah is a horse trainer who enjoys the western lifestyle and spending time with her horses. She is also enthusiastic in photography with a special love for capturing the power, personality, and excitement of bucking bulls. Sarah is excited to continue learning, growing, and making a difference in the lives of both pets and their people.

Ashley Alcantar has been a dedicated veterinary technician for the last thirteen years at multiple clinics in the area. She has experience as a receptionist, grooming, and manager through the years; Ashley loves working with animals every day. She has two beautiful children along with two dogs, a cat, and guinea pig. In Ashley’s free time she spends time with her children and playing tons of sports while also volunteering to help out and coaching the teams.
